The Montenegrin Electrotransmission System (CGES) and the Center for the Protection and Study of Birds (CZIP) signed a Memorandum of Cooperation aimed at improving environmental protection.

"Having in mind common interests in establishing close and permanent relations, recognizing the importance of environmental protection, but also driven by a common desire to contribute to its improvement, CGES and CZIP signed a Memorandum of Cooperation today," the announcement states.

They explained that, by signing that document, CGES and CZIP undertook to work together on adapting the electricity transmission system of Montenegro to environmentally acceptable conditions from the point of view of nesting birds.

As stated, the adjustment of the power transmission system will be done in such a way that CGES will start the project of installing nesting houses on transmission lines in the nearest future, where it is technically feasible.

"It is about a new project of setting up artificial nests for endangered species of birds, which in this way would have the opportunity to restore their population and increase the number of individuals", said those organizations.

As they specified, CGES will also install visual repellers of birds and will consider with special care all recommendations of CZIP related to the proximity of internationally important habitats for birds and migratory routes of birds.

"A large number of artificial nests will be found on the poles of high-voltage transmission lines, which will give CGES, which deals with the transmission of electricity, a special role and responsibility in the protection of nature," the announcement concludes.
