The Minister of Culture Aleksandar Bogdanović and his associates paid a working visit to the Municipality of Herceg Novi yesterday and on that occasion spoke with the President of the Municipality, Stevan Katic.
As announced by the Ministry of Culture, they assessed that there is good cooperation between that government department and the Municipality of Herceg Novi, but also that they recognize the space for its further improvement and dynamization.
There was talk about the nomination of the Forte Mare fortress for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Bogdanović pointed out that, appreciating the cultural and historical importance of this fortress, for Herceg Novi, but also for the whole of Montenegro, the Ministry of Culture is following this issue with special attention, in order to ensure that all conditions are met for this fortress with the status of a cultural asset to be added to UNESCO lists.
He added that the ministry provided 100.000 euros in its budget for the implementation of conservation measures at the fortress and emphasized the expectation that in cooperation with the Municipality, all necessary works will be carried out by the middle of next year.
"The interlocutors pointed out that the rehabilitation of the Kanli Kula fortress, for the beginning of which the Ministry of Culture provided funds in the past period, is extremely important. As the interlocutors assessed, it is necessary to continue with the implementation of the project, bearing in mind the current state in which this cultural property is located. The interlocutors pointed out that the implementation of the mentioned project is in the common interest of the Ministry of Culture and the Municipality of Herceg Novi," the ministry said in a statement.
During the meeting, Katic expressed the Municipality's interest in turning Njegoš's school into a museum.
"Minister Bogdanović expressed the readiness of the Ministry of Culture to help the Municipality, as the initiator and potential founder of this future cultural institution, in the implementation of all necessary activities, informing the interlocutors about all legally prescribed procedures," the ministry said.
The Minister of Culture, they add, emphasized that the Ministry will continue to support projects and programs in the field of cultural heritage and cultural and artistic creativity in the future, especially bearing in mind the importance and reach achieved by the Herceg Novi Film Festival, a manifestation of special importance for the culture of Montenegro. He emphasized the importance of determining the condition and number of unregistered movable cultural assets or their elements located in museums in the territory of the Municipality of Herceg Novi as soon as possible.
"The Ministry of Culture will provide all the necessary support in terms of the immediate determination of the situation, so that all possible failures of local cultural institutions in terms of improper recording are corrected in a timely manner and in accordance with the law," said Bogdanović.
During the visit, he also visited the "City Library and Reading Room", the Forte Mare fortress, Ivo Andrić's house, the "Mirko Komnenović" museum and the area of the planned "Njegoševa škola" museum, where he discussed with the directors and managers of these cultural facilities about topics important to their further action.
Bogdanović pointed out that the Ministry of Culture is at the disposal of all cultural institutions, all for the further development of cultural life in Herceg Novi.
