The head of the UNICEF representative office for Montenegro, Benjamin Perks, the director of the Directorate for Preschool and Primary Education in the Ministry of Education, Arijana Nikolić, and the US Ambassador, Margaret Ujehara, will talk tomorrow with the representatives of the Rožaj Municipality about increasing the enrollment rate of children in preschool institutions.
As UNICEF reminded, the north has the lowest enrollment rate of children in kindergartens in Montenegro.
The Everyone in Kindergarten campaign is being implemented in Bijelo Polje, Berane, Rožaj, Plav and Andrijevica with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of preschool education for the overall development of a child and increasing the rate of enrollment in preschool institutions in the municipalities in the north of Montenegro, where it is the lowest.
It is stated that the survey showed that 60 percent of parents from the north, whose children do not go to kindergarten, said that they were not sufficiently informed about the work of preschool institutions.
The largest number of parents whose children do not go to kindergarten state that there is someone at home who takes care of the child.
"Every fifth parent thinks that the primary role of kindergarten is to take care of children and help working parents, and they do not recognize the key importance of preschool education for early development and learning skills that the child does not learn at home," the research showed.
It is indicated that a quarter of parents believe that children should only start learning when they start school.
"Data from numerous studies show that high-quality preschool programs lead to a reduction in school dropouts and repeat grades, to better educational achievements, but also to a reduction in the rate of employment, crime and other problematic social behaviors," the statement says.
It is estimated that preschool education plays an important role in the development of a child, and that it also has significant positive socio-economic effects on the entire society, which is why it is considered one of the most profitable investments for improving the life of an individual, but also of society as a whole.
