The restoration of the canal in Buljarički polje cannot have a major negative impact on that water ecosystem, but only on the condition that there is an ecological consent for the works, biologist Vuk Iković told "Vijesta".
Environmental activists of Coalition 27 warned that the works could negatively affect the wildlife at that location.
Ikovic says that the restoration of the canal can improve the state of the environment in that area, provided that it is done correctly.
"Water conditions and consent to the environmental impact assessment procedure are required for such interventions."
Iković assessed that these procedures define the method of opening buried channels, depositing sediment, the time of execution and the duration of the works.
He also said that analyzes are necessary in order to define the requirements of nature, because the quality of the environment and the health of the local population are closely related to the quality of water, soil, plants and animals in that area.
"The uniqueness of Buljarica is reflected in the fact that it is one of the few remaining wetlands and lagoons on the Adriatic coast. Its high ecological value consists of freshwater habitats, that is why it is a very important way to restore buried canals".
Locals of Buljarica, as the president of the MZ Đorđe Gregović told "Vijesta", initiated the cleaning of the canal in order to enable the drainage of stormwater and to provide a safe haven for boats in the event of a sudden storm.
Gregović also said that all the works these days were carried out by themselves, without the written approval of "Morski Dobr" and with the symbolic financial assistance of the Municipality of Budva. They also said that "Morsko dobro" will take over the more complex works financially and mechanically, from which they did not advertise.
