The former Jusovac prison is deteriorating more and more, and the dilapidated walls and dilapidated roof threaten to collapse in some parts of the old building.
"Due to the recent fire in the prison, the dilapidated roof collapsed, destabilizing the wall facing the street. Hundreds of pedestrians and vehicles pass by that wall every day, it is very dangerous and the question is when it will collapse. Who is responsible for reacting to time", asked a resident of Durres.
The old Jusovača prison has been registered in the Register of Protected Monuments since 1979 as a third-category cultural asset, but despite that, it is neglected, and in some places collapsed.
The entire area of Jusovača is 3.858 square meters, of which 1.114 are usable space and 2.744 are yard space. Several families also live in the old building.
The complex has two one-story buildings, as well as one auxiliary ground-floor building and is surrounded by a stone wall.
The Association for Democratic Prosperity (ADP) "Zid", to turn the old Podgorica prison Jusovača into an urban center, started back in 1999. From that organization, they complained that former mayor Miomir Mugoša did not want to give them a concession for the old Podgorica prison, which is owned by the capital city.
The director of "Zida" Igor Milošević previously reminded "Vijesti" that they started the initiative back in 1999 and that it was supported by many foreign and domestic non-governmental organizations, various cultural associations, even that the then Ministry of Culture gave its consent, but that they the meeting did not come out Capital city.
