Persons with disabilities will be exempted from paying entrance fees to all national parks on the territory of Montenegro, as well as entrance fees to Visitor Centers, announced the Association of Paraplegics in Podgorica.
This association notes that last year they completed a project called "Knowledge to the Goal" whose goal was to investigate the state of accessibility of national parks for persons with disabilities.
"The result of this one-year campaign of ours is the adopted initiative by which persons with disabilities will be exempted from paying entrance fees in all national parks on the territory of Montenegro, as well as entrance fees in Visitor Centers," the announcement states.
It is added that although the project is formally completed, cooperation and activities with the National Parks of Montenegro continue.
"Research that was done in cooperation with partners from other organizations showed that national parks are not accessible for people with disabilities. There is a lack of paths without barriers that can be used by wheelchair users, accessible toilets for people with disabilities, a marked parking area, other signs and information in Braille for people with visual impairments, accessible furniture in forest paths, etc., says the announcement of the Association of Paraplegics of Podgorica .
According to them, in addition to the above, the services provided in national parks must also be accessible to persons with disabilities.
"This means that restaurants and other facilities that are part of national parks must provide conditions for these services to be used by persons with disabilities. For example, if the National Park provides cruise services on the lake, this would mean that the said service should also be enjoyed by visitors who are persons with disabilities. Also, sport fishing is also interesting for wheelchair users, so care should be taken in that area and this service should be made available to interested persons with disabilities," the announcement states.
This association says that in cooperation with the National Parks of Montenegro, they initiated and through a systematic approach and research pointed out the problem, which should be solved in the coming period.
"We have a lot of activities that will result in the natural treasures that Montenegro has in its national parks being available to this category of visitors, which will ultimately contribute to the promotion and development of tourism in Montenegro," the announcement concludes. .
