On the occasion of the announcement about the construction of mini hydroelectric power plants in the Cijevna canyon, the NGO Center for the Protection and Study of Birds in cooperation with Biciklo.me organizes a bicycle ride with which they want to send a message about the importance that this river and its natural environment have for citizens.

The ride is planned for Saturday, October 20, and would depart from Independence Square at 11 a.m.

"For those who don't cycle, the invitation is to join us on the bridge at the turn to Dinoša," the organizers say.

"Piroda knows no borders and it is clear that such an important ecosystem cannot be divided and viewed as separate units. Any activity in the upper course of the river that flows through Albania has consequences for the lower course, which is a protected area in our country. Therefore, the construction of the planned 14 mHP on the Cijevna river, renders meaningless all the efforts made to preserve and protect its natural values. Mini-hydroelectric power plants have long since become a problem not only of the destruction of biodiversity, but have grown into a socio-economic problem. The north of Montenegro is an example of the unscrupulous destruction of nature to the detriment of the local community, for the sake of privileged investors, and now we are witnessing that the central region of the country is also beginning to feel the consequences of the insatiable appetite of investors," the statement added.

Interested participants will gather at Independence Square, from where the cycling tour will start to the Cijevna bridge, at the turn for the village of Dinoša, where we will stop and listen to short lectures on the passive lessons of the construction of MHP.

The event will be joined by kayakers from Podgorica who, through a short performance, will draw attention to the extent to which the planned projects in Albania can affect the natural and environmental values of our piroda monument - the Cijevna canyon.
