The Minister of Labor and Social Welfare, Kemal Purišić, today visited the foster family of Rajka Dimitrijević in Nikšić, who is currently taking care of two children without parental care, the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare announced.
The announcement adds that in Rajka Dimitrijević's family, foster care as a humane act has a long tradition.
"Slavka Čolaković, aware of the significance and importance of this call of general importance for children as the most vulnerable category, gave a residential building of 70m2 for use and thus resolved the long tenant life of Rajka Dimitrijević", according to the announcement of the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare.
Purišić assessed that this act is an example of humanity not only for Nikšić, but also for the whole of Montenegro, and emphasized his satisfaction at the possibility of personal acquaintance and expressing his deep gratitude to Čolaković.
"Strengthening the natural family, providing support to the mother and child and creating conditions for their greater social and financial independence are among the plans for the next period. We will continue with the further strengthening of foster care within the extended family, and the development of standard foster care with a special emphasis on children from 0- 3 years, as well as the promotion of various types of foster homes", said Purišić.
He expects that the implementation of the "Every Child Needs a Family" campaign, which after its launch in September 2013 showed remarkable progress in this area, will continue to contribute to the increase in the number of foster families, which will offer children without parental care the warmth of their home.
The Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare also announced that in order to create the necessary preconditions for more complete family support, prevention of institutionalization and acceleration of the process of deinstitutionalization of children placed in institutions, the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, with the selfless help of UNICEF and the European Union Delegation, has for several successfully implements the foster care program as the most desirable alternative form of child protection.
