Mayor Slavoljub Stijepović took over the Range Rover jeep, which was bought in 2011 by the head of the Protection and Rescue Service of the Capital City, Radomir Pješčić, for the needs of that service.
The vehicle, license plate PG DU 850, which was purchased for almost 72.000 euros in 2011, according to "Vijesti" information, has been parked near the entrance to the Capital City building for some time, but it is not known whether Mayor Stijepović uses it.
The luxury SUV was also parked in front of the capital building yesterday. In the pledge register of the Commercial Court, it is stated that the jeep was purchased through leasing from the "Hipo Alpe Adria" bank, and that it was last registered on April 29 last year.
The range rover sport HSE 3.0 TDV6 vehicle, according to the data in the register, was paid 71.692 euros.
In 2011, the commander of the Service, Radomir Pješčić, defended the decision to purchase such an expensive car at a time when, after a reduction, the supplement for difficult working conditions was completely abolished for the employees of that service, by saying that in the tender, they only chose the most favorable bidder according to the specifications the vehicle was needed by the Service for "all field actions".
The purchase of the expensive vehicle was also condemned by the representatives of the two trade unions operating within the Protection Service, stating that the firefighters do not have personal equipment for firefighting interventions and others, and that the money should have been spent on the purchase of equipment.
At the end of February, the Secretariat for Local Self-Government announced a public competition for the position of head of the Protection and Rescue Service for four years.
Pješčić has been the head of the Protection Service since June 2010.
