Rare photographs of Montenegrin and Austro-Hungarian soldiers from the First World War were found at the exhibition entitled "War postcard - Montenegro 1914-1918", by Aleksandar Berkuljan. The exhibition was opened on Friday in Cetinje at the Ministry of Culture.

Some of the documents were loaned to Berkuljan, and some were given. It is a heterogeneous material, which currently consists of more than a few thousand photos, tens of minutes of film recordings and also a few thousand scanned or copied documents, pages of books and periodicals.

"Although this material, which is supplemented practically every day, varies in quality and content, it can still be said that cumulatively it at least represents a good supplement to the existing and known, considering the fact that until now it has not been consolidated or presented in a similar way. All this has already been published somewhere, but never in one place", explains the author.

He also adds that, as much as it sometimes seems that a topic has been resolved and that everything has been said about it, this is often not the case.

"Comments can often be ideologised or subjectivized for various reasons, although, truth be told, an image can 'combine' in a similar way, especially if it was created for propaganda purposes. That is why both are represented in the 'War Postcard', that is, it is offered the possibility to look at a part of the past in several ways, so let everyone draw their own conclusions", Berkuljan told "Vijesti".

He adds that the idea of the exhibition was conceived more than two years ago with the intention of being offered to state institutions, as part of the program marking the centenary of the First World War or as an alternative to other initiatives of the same purpose.

Berkuljan's wish is for this project to be continued in the form of a photo monograph.
