In the Cultural Center in Bijelo Polje, a meeting was held to mark the 90th anniversary of the crime in Šahovići, which was organized by the Bosniak National Council.
A day earlier, the Bosniak cultural community canceled the meeting on the same occasion at the same place, because of, as they pointed out, the "national unity of the Bosniaks of southern Sandžak".
The President of the Council, Osman Nurković, pointed out that this event was almost forgotten and that the Šahovićs were first talked about five years ago.
"Our goal is to initiate the organization of a scientific meeting, next year, at which the exact scale of that crime will be determined and we will find out what really happened then, because some minimize that event as if it didn't even happen, and as if it was something insignificant, and some maximize it," said Nurković.
He added that in addition to clarifying the crime, the Bosniak National Council requests that the competent institutions initiate an initiative to build a memorial to the victims in Šahovići, as well as that one of the streets in Bijelo Polje be named after Uzeir Aga Derović, who prevented the spread of that crime.
Historian Šerbo Rastoder said that commemorating 90 years since the crime in Šahovići is above all a victory of reason and what is needed to be said about some historical events.
"At the same time, I have always had no illusions that everyone must believe in that story, which we promote, and we were the first to do it, but I am also convinced that better and stronger arguments than the ones we have offered must be offered in disputing that story." , Rastoder said and pointed out that the most important thing is not to be silent about crimes.
He added that this crime was special because it happened in peacetime conditions.
Academician Ferid Muković also spoke at the gathering.
Among the many guests was the head of the Islamic community of Montenegro, Rifat Fejzić.
