The pond flows even in summer: It survived the July rains

Although none of the fellow citizens yesterday could remember the last time Ribnica flowed and in August, hydrologist Darko Novaković believes that the fact that there is water in its bed is not an extreme case.

Novaković, however, could not remember the last time it happened that the river did not dry up during the summer, nor could the older fellow citizens from Stara Varoš, who claim that it had not happened for years, even decades.

"It happened before that there was water in Ribnica in August, but I can't tell you the last time it happened. We do not have measuring stations at Ribnica and Cijevna, so we cannot do comparative analyzes of water levels, especially not by year.

On Ribnica, the measuring stations were broken 20 years ago, and on Cijevna there are more than 10, and since then we have not installed new ones because they are expensive," Novaković told "Vijesta". The Ribnica riverbed was dry last summer, and the water did not flow until October 1, after two days of heavy rainfall. An even more drastic example happened in 2011, when the Ribnica river bed was dry until December 4, which "Vijesti" wrote about at the time.

Meteorologist Branko Micev then said that the water levels of the rivers were at their lowest level in the last half century, due to the extremely low amount of precipitation that year... Branko Milatović could not remember yesterday when the last time the Ribnica flowed was in August, although, he claims, has been living in the Old Town for a long time.

"Many years have passed since then, but I couldn't say for sure when it was. I just know it's not often the case...

"I'm sorry that the river bed is full of garbage this year and more neglected than in previous years," said Milatović. A resident of Podgorica in his eighth decade of life said that it had happened before that Ribnica flowed throughout the summer, but that this had not been the case for a long time. "The hot summers of the past decade had the effect that there was no water in the Ribnica bed for a long time in mid-August.

I can't remember for sure when it was the last time, but I was at Fundina at the weekend and was surprised to see streams flowing by the old mill. I am quite old, but I don't remember that," he said.

The rarity of water in Sastavci is also a consequence of heavy rainfall in July, when, according to meteorologists, it rained three times more than usual.

The level of Cijevna is the same as in previous years, but the water is colder

Fans of Cijevna and Niagara Falls believe that the water level of the river is at the level of previous years, but that the water is colder than usual. "I come every year during the summer...

He believes that the potential of Cijevna is insufficiently used for tourist purposes and points out that the green color and purity of the water are the best advertisement for every tourist.
