Montenegro invests significant efforts in the fight against human trafficking

Montenegro is in the group of countries that invest significant efforts in achieving standards for the elimination of all forms of human trafficking, according to this year's State Department Report.

The State Department's Office for Monitoring Efforts in the Fight Against Human Trafficking has produced its 14th Report on the situation in that area.

"In this year's Report, Montenegro is classified in the second group, which consists of countries that invest significant efforts in achieving standards for the elimination of all forms of human trafficking," the Office for Combating Human Trafficking announced.

The report, as stated, recognized in an objective manner the commitment of Montenegro to the fight against this phenomenon.

"The high positioning of the Office for the fight against human trafficking, good coordination and cooperation with the non-governmental sector in the planning and implementation of the anti-trafficking policy was especially praised," the statement said.

The Report praised the amendments to the Criminal Code, the continuous work on raising awareness of the law enforcement authorities and its quality application, as well as the increase in the number of detained persons compared to the previous year.

"Efforts undertaken by the government in the field of prevention have also been evaluated positively, especially in the implementation of preventive campaigns, training for employees, financing of SOS phones, as well as developed indicators for early recognition of potential victims of human trafficking," the announcement states.

The Office for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings assessed that the Report is confirmation that the Government is identifying and systematically dealing with upcoming problems in that area.
