Expertise, independence and professionalism of the candidate were not of decisive importance for the election for the supreme state prosecutor, but political suitability, lawyer Branislav Lutovac assessed.
The Supreme State Prosecutor was not elected in the parliament on Monday, because the lawyer Goran Rodić did not receive the support of 49 MPs.
"The election of the state prosecutor of Montenegro is turning into the series 'Crazy, Confused Normal'. The position and the opposition have taken trench positions from which they do not deviate. The expertise, independence and professionalism of the candidates, it turned out, are not of decisive influence, but rather political suitability," he said. Lutovac to the MINA agency.
According to him, what was supposed to be a democratic step forward, to elect the supreme state prosecutor in the Assembly with two thirds, turned into a legal Chinese wall.
"The only thing left for us is to import a new candidate about whom neither the position nor the opposition knows anything, because it seems that there is no candidate in Montenegro who meets the sophisticated criteria of political structures," said Lutovac.
He, he said, doubts that after this "electoral nonsense" there is a single respectable lawyer, who holds to his integrity and professional honor, to embark on such an electoral adventure.
"I am afraid that we will again be forced to change the Constitution in order to be able to elect the supreme state prosecutor in the Assembly. That is our current situation," said Lutovac.
