LGBT Forum Progress, the Montenegrin Olympic Committee (COK), the Youth and Sports Administration and the European Gay and Lesbian Sports Federation (EGLSF) published a joint book, LGBT Inclusion in Sport, by Louis Englefield.
As announced by the LGBT Forum Progres, it is a manual that examines the reasons for the widespread and continuous exclusion of LGBT people from sports, examines the nature and mechanisms of prejudice and discrimination against people of this population in sports and emphasizes the consequences of this exclusion.
"The manual also provides examples of good practice for working with all generations, including youth, how to fight homophobia in sports and how to create more inclusive, tolerant sports environments where all LGBT athletes can stand out," the statement said.
The publication, as stated, has historical significance because, for the first time, Montenegrin publishers are promoting tolerance, visibility and acceptance of LGBT people in Montenegrin sports.
"The manual was published with the support of the LGBT project of the Council of Europe, and with it the publishers directly promote the common aspiration to contribute to the equality, respect and safety of every person in Montenegrin sports, regardless of his or her sexual orientation and gender identity," stated the Forum. .
As they added, the publishers want the manual to contribute to better informing the main sports players and raising their awareness of the importance of social acceptance of the LGBT community.
The preface entitled Sport Belongs to Everyone is jointly signed by LGBT Forum Progress, President of the Montenegrin Olympic Committee Dušan Simonović, Director of the Government Administration for Youth and Sports Igor Vušurović, Adviser to the Prime Minister of Montenegro for Human Rights and Protection from Discrimination Jovan Kojičić and Co-Presidents of the EGLSF Klaus Heusslein and Armelle Mazé.
"This is the first step of our commitment to the process and our readiness to gradually and carefully build stronger openness and tolerance of Montenegrin sports towards LGBT people. We are convinced that in this way we strengthen the concept of happiness for each individual. Everyone should be who they are," says the preface.
The foreword also recognizes the intention that the published manual will become one of the educational opportunities and a form of support for efforts against homophobic activities, attitudes, behavior and speech.
