The Ministry of Health will establish more precise conditions that doctors must meet when determining the health fitness of seafarers, and until the adoption of a new regulation, the Rulebook on health fitness for the work of crew members of ships of the Yugoslav Merchant Navy will be applied. This was announced in the Ministry's response to the Association of Sea Captains of Montenegro based in Kotor. The Association of Sea Captains recently asked the Ministry of Health to inform it of the authorized health institutions where Montenegrin seafarers can determine their medical capacity and obtain a certificate for this. As they stated, the current situation can lead to negative consequences for seafarers, such as loss of employment opportunities, early termination of work contracts on board and loss of competitiveness on the international maritime labor market. to the Ministry and Mensud Grbović, it is stated that the Law on the Safety of Maritime Navigation, which entered into force on January 8 of this year, stipulates that the Ministry will enact more detailed requirements that must be met by an authorized doctor in the procedure for determining medical fitness and in the procedure for issuing a certificate of health capabilities," the statement said. Until the adoption of that regulation, as stated in the letter, the Rulebook on medical fitness for the work of crew members of ships of the Yugoslav Merchant Navy, which prescribes general and special conditions that must be met by seafarers in terms of medical fitness, will be applied. The order on the designation of health institutions that can determine the medical fitness to work on a ship as a crew member determined that the health fitness of seafarers can be performed by the health centers in Kotor, Bar and Podgorica, as well as the public health institute.
