The Tourism Organization of Podgorica (TOP) expects that this year, based on the collection of the residence tax, they will earn more money than in comparison to the record year 2017.
During the last year 2017, the total income of TOP obtained on the basis of the residence tax was about 218.000 euros, and as they pointed out, this year there is a noticeable trend of growth of income on this basis, which is accompanied by an increase in arrivals and overnight stays in Podgorica.
According to official data, in the first five months of this year, about 55.000 tourists visited Podgorica, which, according to TOP, is 30 percent more than in the same period last year, which was a record.
"The amount of residence tax is regulated by the Law on Residence Tax and is determined in the range from 0,10 to one euro. The residence tax in Podgorica is EUR 0,90 per day", according to TOP.
15 percent more overnight stays compared to the same period last year were achieved in the capital in the first five months of this year. TOP is satisfied with that number, stating that this percentage will probably be even higher at the end of the year
The amount that tourists pay for their stay in Podgorica is, according to TO Podgorica, lower than in any major city in the region.
However, the benefits of income generated at the local level do not mean more money only for the local tourism organization.
"Income from the residence tax in the ratio of 80:20 percent is distributed for the activities of the local and National Tourism Organization of Montenegro", specify from TO Podgorica.
