People with disabilities are not born with dignity and rights, let alone live, which is contrary to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, said the director of the Association of Disabled Youth of Montenegro, Marina Vujačić.
On the occasion of International Human Rights Day, she said that in Montenegro she still considers the birth of a disabled child a shame and a tragedy.
"A child with a disability, apart from the fear and prejudices of the family and the environment, faces numerous other barriers, which prevent his equality and respect for human rights. How far people with disabilities have been rejected throughout history and human development can be seen in the example of our environment, built according to the measure of the "average" person. At every step we see stairs with no alternative, high curbs, planters, cars and other objects and objects that hinder the movement of wheelchair users and visually impaired people, but nowhere will we see sign language interpreters or tactile signs," she said. Vujacic.
She said that people with disabilities have proven that they can be successful, such as the examples of Stephen Hawking, Frida Kahlo, Helen Keller, Tom Cruise, Sylvester Stallone, Steve Wonder, and from our area Vuk Karadžić, Nik Vujičić, Saša and Dejan Matić. , Jadranka Stoiljković and many others.
"These are just examples among the many people with disabilities who are not heroes, but only top professionals in business who love to do what they would be if they did not have disabilities. All of them lived and live life in decades and centuries like us, but many of they managed not to be labeled as disabled, but to live and work freely," said Vujacic.
