A public call for the election of five judges has been announced

The Constitutional Committee today announced a public call for the election of five judges of the Constitutional Court of Montenegro. The President of Montenegro, Filip Vujanović, previously announced a public call for the election of two judges of the Constitutional Court. Candidates for judges must be at least 40 years old and have 15 years of work experience in the legal profession. The deadline for submission of applications is 15 days from the announcement of the public call. The amendments to the Constitution of Montenegro, adopted at the end of July, provide for the re-election of all judges of the Constitutional Court. They will be elected in the parliament with a two-thirds majority, that is, with a possible three-fifths support in the second round of voting. The Constitutional Court has seven members, and the mandate of the judges is 12 years. The judges of the Constitutional Court elect the president from among their members for a three-year term. It is foreseen that the president and judges of the Constitutional Court cannot perform parliamentary or other public functions or other activities. Attorney Predrag Mugoša submitted an initiative for the review of the constitutionality of the Law on the Constitutional Court of Montenegro due to, as stated, vagueness regarding the termination of the mandate, that is, the legal position of the current judges of that court. Judge rapporteur in this case, Miodrag Latković, proposed that the Constitutional Court initiate a procedure for evaluating the constitutionality of the disputed law and order the Parliament and the President of Montenegro to stop the election of new judges until the final decision of the Constitutional Court. Members of the Constitutional Court will give their opinion on Latković's proposal. The President of the Constitutional Court is now Milan Marković, and the judges are, in addition to Latković, Miodrag Iličković, Desanka Lopičić, Fetija Međedović and Miraš Radović.----
