During the summer, the Hercegno Water Supply Company is forced to pay for domestic water, from the Regional Water Supply, almost 20 times more expensive than that which arrives from neighboring Croatia.

A cubic meter of water from Croatia, from the Trebišnjica Plat system, costs 2,9 cents after treatment at the "Mojdež" filter station, according to Vodovodo. They explain that 70 percent of the water, i.e. between 430 and 480 liters per second, comes from Croatia and that they do not pay customs duty or VAT for that water.

For a cubic meter, i.e. a thousand liters of domestic water, the Herzegovina Waterworks pays Regionalno more than 55 cents, that is, almost 20 times more expensive. Although the Novi Waterworks claim that they currently have enough water from their own reserves, they say that they signed the water supply contract with the Regional Waterworks in order not to jeopardize the water supply in the height of the tourist season. At that time, in addition to 30.000 domiciled residents, almost as many tourists stayed in the largest city of Bokele.

The Regional Water Supply did not answer the questions of "Vijesti", among others, why their water is 20 times more expensive than in Croatia.

For the sake of comparison, 12 euros were paid last year for about 300.000 million cubic meters of water from the Plat Trebišnjica system, via Konavalo in Croatia, and 200.000 euros for 110.000 cubic meters from the Regional Waterworks.

Last year, on September 11, the Hercegnovski Vodovod stopped receiving water from the Regional, but they had to pay the quantities of water defined by the contract. In practice, they say they paid 85.000 euros for water they didn't use.

The citizens of Herceg-Novi suggested that they take water from the Regional Waterworks only in the critical summer months, because they have sufficient quantities and supplies for the rest of the period, but this was allegedly not accepted. Thus, Herceg Novi will receive 15 liters of water per second from the Regional Waterworks in July and September, 30 in August, and 5 liters per second in the other months until the end of the year. Herceg Novi is also supplied with water from the local source Opačica, which currently has a reserve of 100 liters per second, but is currently not exploited because there is enough water from the other two systems.

Director of the Waterworks, Olivere Doklestić, points out that there are about 100 liters of water per second in reserve, which can be released into the system at any time.
