Revenge against Ljumović for supporting Vojvodić?

The decision of the Senate of the University of Montenegro not to elect Janko Ljumović as a full professor is not academic, but vindictive, said Mira Popović, a program associate at the Center for Civic Education.

Although none of the senators opposed Ljumović's election to a higher position during the recent session, the former Minister of Culture will remain an associate professor at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts for the next five years.

Formally, the reason is the dilemma of whether production is an artistic or a scientific discipline, informally, Ljumović was not elected to the position because during last year's crisis in connection with the headquarters of the Medical College from Beran, he supported the views of the former rector Radmila Vojvodić, which is why he was not liked by the Board of Directors of headed by Duško Bjelica.

After Vojvodić's dismissal, Ljumović resigned from the position of Minister of Culture.

"The Senate continues with bad practices, so currently those who are eligible are easily promoted to positions, and those who are not are being stopped from advancing in their academic career. "The new Scientific Committee, which stood out for its support for the election of Velimir Rakočević as a full professor, whose references were questionable, was also 'helpful' in preventing Ljumović from being selected as a full professor," said Popović.

"The Board's opinion that the candidate meets the minimum criteria for election to the title of full professor" was previously submitted to the Senate.

The former president of the Scientific Committee, Vladimir Pešić, told "Vijesta" that "by presenting dilemmas in their opinion, the new members of the Scientific Committee gave the Senate an alibi for the final decision".

"It should have been clearly stated whether it is a scientific or an artistic discipline, as the Scientific Committee, which I headed, did at one time in connection with the works of the dean of the Faculty of Law," said Pešić.

Popović adds that the Scientific Committee has gone beyond its jurisdiction because it has no right to evaluate the classification of the field, but whether the attached references are adequate: "It is important to remind that there is a decision of the FDU Council that classifies the field of Theater Production as professional-artistic, to which the Committee and invites, thus making the opinion contradictory and directed".
