Outraged at DPS: Without work and hope, she ended up on the street with her children

Katarina Đukanović, a single mother from Kotor, at the age of 48, as she says, came to a situation where she ended up on the street, without a roof over her head, without a job, but also without hope that someone would help her solve the problem.

After 30 years of working in the hospitality industry, Đukanović lost her job, and therefore no income, and then she was fired by her landlord because she could not pay the rent.

"I don't know who else to turn to and ask for help," said Đukanović, a mother of two daughters.

Since January, when she became homeless, she says, she has been staying with friends, and her daughters with their friends.

"For a few days I'm at one, then at the other, and so alternately, so as not to burden people. I had to sell the property I acquired over the years in order to pay rents and duties, so I had a few bags of goods left," said Đukanović.

She is most disappointed, she says, in DPS, whose voter she has been for years, and who, she claims, promised to find her some kind of accommodation.

"For a few days I am with one, then with the other, and so alternately, so as not to burden people. I had to sell the property that I acquired over the years in order to pay rents and duties, so I had a few bags of goods left," said Đukanović.

She said that the only person who listened and acted humanely and honestly was the president of the Kotor parliament who received and spoke with her, but that they concluded that he was powerless to solve her problem.

"My family is scattered, we sleep in other people's houses, I have no job, and I really don't know what else to do. I still have to turn to Milo Đukanović or Filip Vujanović, to see if they can help me", said Đukanović.

Kašćelan: Totally untrue

The president of Kotor DPS, Borislav Kašćelan, told "Vijestan" yesterday that Đukanović's claims are completely untrue, and that he was surprised.

"I have never promised her anything, nor am I the kind of person to promise something that is not within my capabilities in order to gain some points or something like that. I am always here to help every citizen, including Mrs. Đukanović, but only when there is a possibility and when I can help. I don't promise what I can't deliver. So what she says has nothing to do with life," Kašćelan said.

He said that "that which is not in accordance with the law cannot support or do something beyond the legal powers".

"But that's why I committed myself, as I would to any other citizen, to provide her with a job, and that will be realized soon," Kašćelan said.
