The Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts (CANU) requested urban planning and technical conditions for the construction of a new building near Gorica and the reconstruction of existing facilities.
As stated in the request, there is a residential building of 754 and 428 square meters and an auxiliary building of 106 square meters on the plots under Gorica in the capital intended for the works.
The request was sent to the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism, but from that government department they forwarded it to the Secretariat for Planning and Spatial Planning and Environmental Protection of the Capital City, because, as stated, it is not a question of complex engineering facilities, and that is the responsibility of local self-governments.
CANU was supposed to move into a building near the Millennium Bridge, in which over six million euros were invested, but the Government stated last year that it will house some state bodies there, while academics will still have to wait for adequate space to work.
Back in 1997, the Parliament of Montenegro made a decision to finance the construction of a new Academy building near the Millennium Bridge. The Academy signed a protocol on cooperation with the Government in 2010, and in the same year it signed a construction contract with the company "Kroling". The construction of the building near Millennium, however, is still not finished, it is now in the final phase.
