According to data from 2014 to 2016, Montenegro had 796 police officers per 100.000 citizens, while the European standard is 211 police officers. But that's why, according to data from the Alternative Institute and the Pointpulse Regional Network, in recent years it had twice as many murders per 100.000 inhabitants as neighboring Serbia.

The Minister of Internal Affairs, Mevludin Nuhodžić, believes that this calculation is not good because the European standard does not include border policemen, and that Montenegro has the strength to deal with organized criminals.

"Those statistics are not harmonized. In the EU, the number of police officers in relation to the number of inhabitants does not count the border police, while those who handle this data in our country count the border police. The fight against organized crime is a difficult job. Organized crime is organized to last for a long time. It has its own hierarchy, means, rules. The institutions of the state of Montenegro will deal with organized crime. I have no doubt that the state with its institutions will defeat crime," said the minister during a working visit to the municipality of Nikšić.

Regarding the investigation into the attack on "Vijesti" journalist Olivera Lakić, the minister said that this case is a priority in the work of the police.

"Police-prosecutor activities are ongoing. This case is a priority for the police and the competent authorities are working intensively to shed light on the case," he said.

When it comes to the security situation in the city under Trebjes, it is very good, the minister said, and the Nikšić Security Center achieved significant results in its work during the past year.

"This is best illustrated by the fact that last year the Nikšić Security Center solved 72,4 percent of all criminal offenses. This is an excellent result and speaks most vividly about the work of the Nikšić Security Center," said the minister who visited the Nikšić Security Center and talked to the chief and management.

According to him, in the conversation, the "necessity" of personnel strengthening, material and technical equipment and education of police officers was apostrophized.

"We also discussed new ideas and actions that will contribute to the stability of the security situation in Nikšić".

The Minister also met with the President of the Municipality Veselin Grbović and his associates and expressed his satisfaction with the work of the local administration, which is a "quality service for citizens".

"The municipality led by Grbović is agile in solving the infrastructural and communal problems of Nikšić. It is about the leadership that strives to make all spheres of development of Nikšić intensive and make Nikšić even more beautiful than it was until now".

He praised the local administration for its "agility when it comes to investments", as well as solving housing issues for employees in health care, the Municipality, the police, and pensioners.

"The local administration made a decision to cede construction land without communal fees to solve 140 cases of housing needs of security sector workers," said the minister.

The President of the Municipality, Veselin Grbović, said that in a maximum of two months the City Square will be covered by video surveillance.

"We will create a pilot project and create video surveillance in the center of Nikšić and later based on it, I hope that the whole of Nikšić will be covered, which will certainly affect the even better security of our city," Grbović said.

Nuhodžić also visited the NGO SOS telephone and convinced himself, as he said, of their quality work and said that the issue of violence against women and children is one of the priorities in the work of the MUP.

They also talked about the House of Revolution

Nuhodžić and Grbović also talked about the House of Revolution, the reconstruction of which, the first phase covering ten percent of the space, began in March.

"We expect the government to allow us to lease space for up to 30 years to interested investors. It is the most painless way to solve the burning problem in the heart of the city. There are several significant investors who are practically on the verge of entering these businesses. We have to call for tenders, but we have to get permission from the Government," said Grbović.

According to him, tomorrow he has a conversation with an investor who is already present in Nikšić and who is interested in a part of the House of Revolution.

"If we agree on that, then I'm not worried and I expect that we will solve everything in due time and it's going better than I expected," Grbović said.
