After thirteen years of work on the construction of the road connecting Ostrog and Ždrebaonik monasteries, several pre-election announcements by the leaders of the Danilovgrad municipality and the Government of Montenegro that it would be completed by the end of that year, this road will be opened today, coincidentally, three days before the elections.
The idea of connecting the two sanctuaries dates back to 1935, and four years later, during the elections in Danilovgrad, the then Yugoslav Radical Party, the Democratic Party, the People's Party and the Youth Party promised to break the road from Ostrog via Sokolin, Kupinov, Kovač, Podvrača , Šobajić, Bar Šumanović.
Due to the Second World War, the road was forgotten, and in peace the idea rested for 60 years, until June 1999, when the first meters of the road from Ostrog to Vinići were broken.
10 years ago, Milo Đukanović, then President of Montenegro, during his visit to Danilovgrad, accompanied by Milorad Vuletić, then President of the Municipality, and Branislav Đuranović, then President of OO DPS, spoke about this road. During last year's working visit to Danilovgrad, Prime Minister Igor Lukšić said that he will try to ensure that the road will be completed by the end of the year, and he said almost the same thing this year, during his recent visit to Danilovgrad.
"I am sorry that I will disappoint some, but the road will be completed by the end of the year," said Đuranović last year, and since then he has repeated it several times.
Today's opening, as well as the road tour last year, just before the re-election of Đuranović as mayor, certainly has nothing to do with the elections.
