The children, who stayed in Čanje last year, as part of the school in nature, most likely got poisoned by defective water, which, in addition to drinking, was also used to prepare food in the hotel.
Infectious disease expert prof. Dr. Bogdanka Andrić determined that the poisoning of children last year in Čanje was caused by staphylococcus bacteria, and she assumes that it was caused by defective water.
"Given that staphylococcal bacteria and other bacteria, indicators of fecal pollution, were not found in food samples from the kitchen (mayonnaise, grilled meat, boiled rice, tomato puree, eggs, lettuce, etc.), nor on other dishes in in the kitchen (plates, escajg), in the analyzed biological material of the patients, it can be assumed that in this case alimentary intoxication occurred through water", Andrić writes in the findings.
The Sanitary Inspection previously announced that bacteria were found in the water, on the hands and gloves of two hotel employees, as well as on the salad board.
Medical expert prof. Dr. Stanko Milić found that the children had no reduction in general life activity, that the children who were treated in the hospital suffered physical pain of strong intensity for a period of two days, pain of medium intensity for an average of three days, and pain of mild intensity occasionally for a period of seven days.
"In the case of minor patients treated on an outpatient basis, I am of the opinion that pain of high intensity was present for a period of one day, moderate intensity for a period of two days, and occasionally pain of mild intensity for a period of five days," stated Milić.
As for the fear suffered, Milić stated that these are children who experienced poisoning with unpleasant symptoms of dehydration, stomach pains, diarrhea, which causes and is perceived as a state of intense fear, due to the present ailments, but that the fear suffered did not leave permanent consequences on children's psychological life.
The lawsuit against the state, the school, the owner of the villa "Lara" Vasilij Gvozdenović, where the children were staying, was initiated by 101 parents of the pupils of the elementary school "Vladimir Nazor".
"It is necessary to keep in mind that children react far more emotionally and violently than adults, in the form of an acute stress reaction, to the violation of their health. Bearing in mind the above, I am of the opinion that the children suffered fear of high intensity for a period of three days, of medium intensity for a period of five days and occasionally of mild intensity for a period of seven days", states Milić in the report.

Lawyer Vladan Bojić filed a criminal complaint against the Bar sanitary inspector Igbala Duraković, for the criminal offense of negligent work in the service, stating that Duraković, acting in the capacity of the applicant for the initiation of misdemeanor proceedings in the case against the owner of the villa "Lara" in Čanj and his company, did not respected the basic rules of the profession and thus failed to provide a factual description of the misdemeanor offense in the report, which is why this proceeding was ultimately suspended.
