Voluntary fire brigade Luštica will improve the protection of residents and property on the Luštica peninsula and contribute to more prepared management in case of emergency situations, said the president of the Municipality of Herceg Novi Stevan Katic at the donor dinner on the occasion of the establishment of DVD Luštica.
The donor's evening in Žanjice gathered about a hundred representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, local administration, members of the protection and rescue services, businessmen and locals. All of them supported and helped establish and equip the fire brigade in Luštica.
"After last summer, when fires raged on the Luštica peninsula for more than two months, it was clear that we could not wait any longer to establish such an important society," Katic said.
"The Luštica peninsula is connected to the parent municipality of Herceg Novi by road through the neighboring municipality of Tivat, with a ferry crossing and over an hour's drive to the first villages. For this reason, the municipal Protection and Rescue Service cannot react in a timely manner, which is especially pronounced during summer traffic jams. In this way, we are solving that problem because we will have a team that will react urgently and in a short period of time," Katic explained.
The society has 22 members, mostly locals, three firefighting vehicles have been provided, uniforms and shoes have been purchased, and the renovation of the premises in the Luštica Local Community is in progress. In addition, since the day before yesterday, members of DVD Luštica started training, in cooperation with the Directorate for Emergency Situations.
The director of the Directorate for Emergency Situations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Montenegro, Mirsad Mulić, congratulated the establishment of DVD Luštica, saying that volunteer firefighting in Montenegro unfortunately does not have a tradition, as some neighboring countries have, but this area of Boka is a bright spot.
The establishment of DVD Luštica, as an important part of the protection and rescue system in the territory of Herceg Novi, was supported from the beginning by the locals and the local community. They recognized that this step will be of inestimable importance for their safety and faster action in case of need, emphasized the president of the MZ Luštica, Jovan Moric, who welcomed Zoran Bogetić's help in procuring the truck, and the president of DVD Luštica, Nikola Trojanović.
There are four operating in the area of Boka Kotorska, two of which are voluntary fire brigades in the municipality of Herzegovina.
