The coastal municipalities, five of them, with the exception of Herceg Novi, will be able to breathe a sigh of relief this summer, because there will be enough drinking water, thanks to the large capacities of the regional water supply system.

What was almost a dream a decade ago, which is enough water in the peak of summer, has now definitely become a reality. After four coastal municipalities, Tivat, Budva, Kotor and Bar, were connected to the regional water supply last summer, which completely solved the problem of water shortage in the tourism metropolis, at the end of next month Ulcinj will also be "connected" to the system.

"As far as the operation of the system is concerned, we have not had any downtime so far and we expect to supply the Montenegrin coast with quality and continuity, with the exception of Herceg Novi. We are forming special crews during the summer season who will be on duty. As much water as is needed by the local waterworks, the Regional Waterworks will provide. We have an automatic management system from Better Sisters, from where everything is controlled, and we also have a backup in Budva. If Budva says give us another 50 liters of water per second, it gets them in two minutes," stated the President of the Managing Board of JP "Regionalni Vodvodek" Miodrag Pejović.

Asked if the problem is the debt of the local waterworks, especially Budva and Kotor, which exceeded two million euros for unpaid bills, Pejović emphasized that the relations of the Regional Waterworks with the local waterworks have greatly improved in the last few months.

"We are moving forward in that cooperation and the Regional Water Supply has made significant concessions when it comes to water prices, which are an average of 24 cents per cubic meter. All contracts are concluded with local waterworks. This year, we have obligations under international loans of around 2,1 million euros, and we will manage to complete them without the help of the Government. The Municipality stood behind the Kotor Waterworks, which is the heaviest payer, which is very good. "Tivat fully respects the contract, as much water as they take over, they pay," said Pajović.

"With Budva, significant progress has been made with the director of the Waterworks and with the president of the municipality, we do not expect any problems there, nor with the Municipality of Bar, because they are also trying to comply with the contract as much as possible. We have discussions with the president of Ulcinj in a few days about taking over the water from of the regional water supply, how to create the conditions for them to connect to the branch lines that we will establish there. The debt of Budva and Kotor has been reduced, dynamics have been achieved and we have agreed that they should pay current obligations and part of the outstanding debt, and that is now being respected," he stressed. Pejović.

He concluded that the capacity of the Regional Water Supply is 1.100 liters per second, of which Budva takes the most.
