The entrance to the Old Town of Kotor, from the Gurdić side, was closed this morning because part of the rock fell on it, the Communal Police announced. This is the area near the southern city gate where the rocks are susceptible to falling due to their extremely vertical position. According to information from Directorate for the development and construction of Kotor, the area has been marked and adequate signs and obstacles have been placed on it, due to the danger of new collapses.
Maksim Mandić, the commander of the Kotor Fire Department, told Skala radio that this is not a new collapse, but rather a residual rock mass from the previous collapse of a large rock.
Until the weather conditions improve, the gate from Gurdić will be closed, because today it is impossible to climb above Gurdić on the slippery terrain, even with mountaineering equipment, said Mandić. Photo: Radio Kotor
After the weekend, on the first nicer day, the firefighters will search this area with their equipment and knock down the remaining stones.
There have already been landslides on Gurdić, and in 2010 rocks damaged the access road and the fence leading to the entrance.
