People with disabilities will have the opportunity to attend creative workshops dedicated to developing their skills in the field of design and arts and crafts, which are being implemented by the British Council as part of the project called "Inclusive Design".
The workshops, which were officially opened today, will be attended by young people with disabilities until December 23 in Delta City, and the lecturers will be prominent Montenegrin artists.
"By developing the capacities of people with disabilities and enabling their participation in economic and social life, we are creating a successful sustainable society," said Vanja Madžgalj, director of the British Council in Montenegro, at the opening ceremony in Delta City.
Great Britain, as she added, is a society in which inclusion is truly woven into social activity, and we want to transfer these experiences to our country.
The Ambassador of Great Britain, Kate Knight Sands, stated that a number of activities were organized in Montenegro with the aim of promoting equal rights, particularly highlighting the UNICEF campaign called "Let's Talk About Possibilities", which showed all the determination and courage of children with disabilities to raise awareness of their rights and which showed that all citizens can benefit from their talent.
She added that on December 10, a Christmas bazaar will be organized in Delta City, and that the funds collected from the sale will be allocated for the purchase of equipment for the development of motor skills of children with disabilities.
"The British Council is launching today's project with the aim of developing the creativity, abilities, skills and economic empowerment of people with disabilities. The project carries a clear message for the greater need to include these people in our economic, social, educational and spiritual life - stated the ambassador.
The executive director of the Association of Disabled Youth, Marina Vujačić, believes that the existing project, along with the inclusion of people with disabilities, will greatly contribute to these people expressing their creativity and ability.
"In the past few years, people with disabilities started making designed objects, souvenirs and greeting cards, but workshops for inclusive design offer more because they ensure that we are in the focus of social events every day. Also, they are starting work to celebrate the World Day of Persons with Disabilities with disabilities, they also provide an opportunity for everyone to express their talent individually," said Vujacic.
She added that it is a special advantage that people with disabilities attending workshops will have the opportunity to learn and work with recognized and prominent Montenegrin artists.
