Members of the anti-terrorist unit of the Police Administration, with the support of the NGO "Green Home", the Environmental Protection Agency and citizens, marked the World Environment Day by removing the wreckage from the Morača river bed and thus began the action of cleaning the Morača river bed, which will last 60 days.
The director of the Environmental Protection Agency, Daliborka Pejović, said that two months ago, they set June 5, the day when they should start this important action, and thus joined the global and regional initiative to celebrate World Environment Day.
"I would like to thank the OSCE mission in Montenegro, which financially and logistically supported this activity, as well as the NGO "Green Home", which with its presence always gives a significant mark and stamp to such activities, and a special thanks goes to the special anti-terrorist unit of the police administration," said Pejović.
She apostrophized that the public and citizens could see a certain amount of risk that the anti-terrorist unit takes for the cleaning operation in Morača.
"In the next few days, we will acquire adequate equipment. The action will cost around 90 euros, and we have secured the money from donors and competent institutions. The locality where we are located is just as devastated as many others that unfortunately we cannot save. If these activities are not a good enough reason and motivation to take better care of the environment, then I don't know which ones are better than criminal policy, the opportunity to prove to people that they take care of what they leave to their descendants. These are not pictures that should go around the world," she said is Pejović.
The commander of the special anti-terrorist unit, Mladen Marković, said that the project will last until the task is completed, with the hope that it will be completed within the specified period.
"Depending on the risk and the height of the water in the bed of the Morača river, the way we will work will also depend. In addition to the anti-terrorist unit, non-governmental organizations, citizens, the rafting club "Soko" also gave their support, which will help us during the actions. Our rough estimate is that we will from the place where the main road joins the Morača river bed to the "Union Bridge" we will extract close to 40 tons of iron," said Marković.
According to him, since the Podgorica - Kolašin - Belgrade highway was built, wrecks have not been removed until now, except in some exceptional situations when, due to traffic accidents, investigating judges ordered the removal of certain wrecks for expert examination.
"One of the goals is to contribute to our country in the knowledge and skills that the members of the unit I manage possess. The second goal is to get modern equipment that is very expensive on the market, and it is about diving and mountaineering equipment," Marković said. .
The executive director of "Green Home" Darko Pajović said that this will be a good example of sustainability when talking about waste recycling, which will be handed over to the recycling center, with financial compensation, which will be used for the purchase of equipment.
"Green home" is part of this action, as are 17 non-governmental organizations that have already applied to us. I believe that by the end of the action, there will be many more, as I believe that there will be more actions like this," said Pajović.
