The domesticated practice that Montenegrin stone serves only for the needs of construction and road construction in the country could become a thing of the past in the near future, because with the development of new technologies in the world and in some neighboring countries, high-quality stone (limestone) is already prepared by procedures (crushing, sifting, grinding and grading) can get high quality products (fillers). They are widely used in the paint and varnish industry, glass production, animal feed, food, and even the very demanding pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry...
Engineer Darko Božović, Ph.D., from the Institute for Geological Research, recently received his doctorate on the wider application of stone, i.e., the production of the so-called carbonate fillings and came to the result that Bjelopavlić stone - limestones "represent a high-quality mineral raw material, which can be used, except for the production of architectural-building and technical-building stone, and as a carbonate filler in many other branches of industry".
"In the geological structure of the terrain of Montenegro, carbonate rocks have the largest distribution and participate with about 65 percent, and are mainly represented by limestones and dolomitic limestones, with a significant presence of dolomite. Until now, these rocks have been valorized through use in construction, as technical-building or architectural-building (decorative) stone, and they are used very little as raw materials for obtaining carbonate fillers," said Božović for "Vijesti".
The Upper Cretaceous sediments of the high karst zone, i.e. the mining area of Bjelopavlić, are distinguished by their prospects and productivity. The largest concentration of deposits of architectural and building stone, as well as limestone masses suitable for the production of commercial blocks, is within the ore region of Danilovgrad and Spuž.
"For the first time, a spatial analysis of certain geological limestone formations was carried out with new research. In the area of the Bjelopavlić mining region, several types of carbonate raw materials were discovered, whose economic potential is clearly visible," added Božović.
He noted that their research on 14 deposits and occurrences of limestone, "showed the high quality of this mineral raw material, whereby limestone from almost all deposits and occurrences can be used in the animal feed and sugar industry, most in the paint and varnish industry, rubber and plastics, metallurgy, and foundry".
"Several deposits and occurrences contain high-quality limestone that can be used in the paper, glass, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries, and rarely for the production of mineral fertilizers. Another promising field of application of carbonate fillers in Montenegro is in the cement and concrete industry," added Božović.
He said that the use of stone for the purposes he was talking about would increase the effect of employment, namely of highly educated personnel who will acquire new knowledge through the application of new technology. In addition, by obtaining a wide range of fillers for different branches of industry, products are obtained that are far more expensive per unit of mass than the products used so far, even up to 10 times.
The Canadians confirmed the quality of the stone
Božović said that on the basis of complex tests of the chemical properties of the limestone of the Bjelopavlić ore region, carried out by "ACME Analytical laboratories LTD" from Vancouver, Canada, it can be concluded that these are high-quality pure limestones.
In addition, by examining the physical and mineralogical characteristics of limestone, which were carried out in the laboratory of the "Institute for Technology of Nuclear and Other Mineral Raw Materials" from Belgrade, it was concluded that these are high-quality, mineralogically very pure limestones.
- 9,5 million cubic meters are deposits and occurrences of carbonate raw materials, primarily architectural and building stone, with proven balance geological reserves in the area of Bjelopavlić. These raw materials are located in the following places: Klikovače, Maljat, Visočica, Vinići, Radujev karst, Slatina (Kriva Ploča), Suk, Jovanovići, Lalevići, Pješivački do
