In the capital city in the last 15 days, there were several burglaries and thefts in buildings between 7 a.m. and 15 p.m. Unknown persons visit the buildings and wait for an opportunity when the apartment owners are not present and break into the apartments.
The intercoms that exist in almost all buildings are not a real measure of protection against these criminal acts, so the Police Directorate decided to react preventively in order to reduce the frequency of the aforementioned illegal actions.
"Every year, and especially in the period of June, July and August, the number of thefts and burglaries increases. Unknown persons follow apartment owners and wait for an opportunity when they are not at home and when they are usually at work or on vacation to break into their apartment and steal valuable things." , stated Darko Knežević, Deputy Head of the Office for Public Order and Peace in Podgorica.

A few days ago, preventive measures were launched to make fellow citizens aware of the threat from unknown persons endangering property.
"We carry out preventive activities so that our fellow citizens are aware of the danger of burglary in their homes. Since 2007, the project "Community Police Work" has been successfully implemented, in which each part of the city has its own "policeman contact". that each of them places notices at the entrance of buildings about suspicious persons breaking into apartments," Knežević pointed out, adding that they would be satisfied if at least one burglary was stopped in this way.
Knežević stated that in addition to preventive actions, the Criminal Police takes other actions against the perpetrators of such crimes.
"Officials of the Criminal Police undertake actions that are of a different nature from preventive measures. Suspicious persons are observed, monitored and various activities are carried out, so we expect that in these two ways similar criminal acts will be reduced to a minimum," said Knežević.
Given that the population census is current, it is easier for people who commit similar crimes to enter the entrances of buildings.

"They usually present themselves as employees of various agencies from the capital city. They also present themselves as enumerators, which allows them to pass more easily in buildings that have intercoms," Knežević says, stressing that he appeals to building tenants to pay attention to these events in case they notice suspicious persons to call the contact of a police officer or the Police Emergency Service at number 122.
Today, the "Vijesti" team found police officer Pero Zečević in the area next to the Small Market, who was pasting a warning intended for building tenants in the entrances.
