Student trustee at the Faculty of Philosophy in Nikšić, Boban Batrićević, and student representatives from that faculty in the Student Parliament of the University of Montenegro, Slobodan Radović and Tijana Trifunović, will organize a public forum tomorrow dedicated to the introduction of the August-September remedial examination period, student activism and the problems faced by students of the Nikšić Faculty. .
"The list of reasons for allowing an additional exam period is long. For now, state university students have one regular exam period each in December and May, as well as one remedial exam period in January and June.
This kind of education and examination system does not work well for students. Exam deadlines are very ungratefully structured in terms of time. Students take exams from an entire semester in just five to ten days, which is a huge workload.
The interval between the regular and remedial exam period is short in order to prepare for one exam, not several. If a student is not able to take the exam within the stipulated period due to justified reasons, he loses the year and can only take the delayed exam the following year," Batrićević explains the reasons why they are asking for the introduction of the August-September deadline.
This type of examination system, he says, does not suit fourth-year students either, because because of one failed exam, they have to wait a whole year to be able to pass that exam, thereby losing valuable time that they could have used either for doing an internship or for enrolling in postgraduate studies. .
The deadline that Batrićević and his colleagues from the Faculty of Philosophy are seeking would also reduce the cost of studying.
"Students pay for each overdue exam - the number of credits of the given course times 8,33 euros. The universities in the surrounding area met the students and provided them with more exam deadlines, which greatly improved the quality of studies, while the University of Montenegro has the fewest exam deadlines in the region.
The fact that the dean of the Faculty of Sports and Physical Education provided students with additional exam dates, while the Faculty of Economics organized the so-called the 'summer academy' where students take back exams over the summer. "Why didn't the administration of the Faculty of Philosophy make the same possible for its students," asks Batrićević.
Batrićević, Radović and Trifunović will try to fight for additional terms at the session of the Senate of the University of Montenegro, which will be held on Thursday, February 17.
If they do not succeed, the students say that they will be forced to protest, which would not be new for them, because in November last year they also protested due to the election of representatives for the Student Parliament. If that happens, the students hope, as they said, that the new protests, like the one in November, will be successful.
