More than 52 percent of women in Montenegro, about 140.000 of them, do not yet have their own gynecologist, the daily newspaper "Dan" was informed by the State Health Fund.
In accordance with Montenegrin practice, close to 48 percent of women over the age of 13 have their chosen doctor, which is not a satisfactory situation.
The Center for Monitoring (CEMI) warns that a large number of women (43,8 percent) in Montenegro do not have a gynecologist of their choice, and that they do not even visit private clinics.
"About 53 percent of the test subjects have not yet performed a Pap test, and 43,2 percent perform regular breast self-examination. Only 14 percent of test subjects performed mammography, while 20,9 test subjects performed breast ultrasound," are the results of Cemi's summary.
Doctors advise women to choose their own doctor and to take much more care of their own health.
"We should not ignore the fact that the majority of women in our country do not attach sufficient importance to their reproductive health, which includes its prevention and promotion, as well as the prevention of serious diseases," Fund spokesman Amer Ramusović told "Dan".
Most women in Mojkovac, close to 84 percent, have a gynecologist of their choice, which is much more than in some developed Montenegrin municipalities. The percentage of women in Nikšić, however, who chose their doctor is only slightly above 23 percent. The worst situation is in Cetinje, where only 14,63 percent of women chose a gynecologist.
In the capital, 41,99 percent of women have chosen a gynecologist.
