Parents of the students of the "Mirko Srzentić" elementary school in Petrovac, more than 50 of them, who gathered this morning before the start of classes in the school yard, called on the Minister of Education Damir Šehović to withdraw the decision on the appointment of Miodrag Šćepanović as the new director of this public institution, and to accept the Council's proposal parents and put teacher Ivana Kurtović in that place.
They told Šehović that they will be persistent in their intention and that they will use all legal means to fight for Kurtović to be appointed.
"Yesterday, we were informed of the Decision of the Ministry of Education on the selection of the principal of our school. By the Ministry's decision of February 4, Miodrag Šćepanović is appointed to the position of principal of JUOS "Mirko Srzentić", and we - the parents - are not satisfied with such a decision. As one of the three candidates who applied for the position of principal, teacher Ivana Kurtović from Petrovac also applied. The third candidate was former school principal Slavko Dašić, who withdrew his candidacy. When teacher Ivana Kurtović applied, the Council of Parents expressed its support for the teacher in writing." said the president of the Council of Parents, Dušan Radević.
According to him, the parents gathered to express their dissatisfaction with the choice of the director.
"The long-time teacher Kurtović applied for the position of director, but the ministry made a different decision. We are dissatisfied with that decision, not only because Kurtović is from Petrovac and a member of our community, but she is a truly exceptional candidate, an excellent professor, teacher, pedagogue and man. She successfully led three generations of students from the first to the fifth grade, and her efforts and desire for continuous improvement have already been noticed by the Ministry of Education. With her firm attitude and authority, but also with her inexhaustible will and creative approach to work, she enables children to have an adequate "Her well-designed teaching encourages children to work and awakens their desire for greater knowledge and success," stressed Radević.
He emphasized that Kurtović has a successful cooperation with both the team and the parents.
"She is always ready to listen, help and advise both students and parents. In addition to her teaching work, she is also the founder of the drama section at school. Her dedication to work can be seen in the fact that she played plays with the drama section at numerous festivals. By participating in she showed her humanity and understanding for her fellow citizens in a large number of humanitarian actions. With great effort and dedication, she managed to secure more donations for the school," Radević pointed out.
He added that the parents will not stop at this protest, but will be persistent, and that Kurtović will be the director.
The Ministry of Education stated that the competition was conducted like any other, in accordance with the law and the quality of references and submitted documentation.
"Mr. Šćepanović is a professor of Russian language and literature and has 32 years of experience in education, so there is no doubt that he can make a serious contribution to the development of this institution," the Ministry told "Vijesta".
Emphasizing that it is a small school where about 150 children attend classes, member of the Council of Parents Senka Medin said that they are disappointed with the decision of the Ministry of Education.
"For the first time, after a full 15 years, we now have the opportunity to have a candidate from our school, our community, whose work we are completely satisfied with. We were waiting for something to finally be done in this school after 15 years, for more investment to be made in our school, some things are changing. This director's position, which became vacant after a decade and a half, we do not perceive only as an empty position that needs someone to sit down and fill it, but to be occupied by the right person, to experience this school, as we all we experience, like a second house. That's why we think that Kurtović is the right person," said Medin.
Parent Danica Kažanegra Gregović said that it was an imposition of will by the relevant ministry.
"This is an imposition of the will, without asking the local community in any way. The parents' council supported the candidacy of Kurtović as a teacher from this school, because in the previous long period we had staff in that place who did not work in this school, who did not was from the town. We were in a situation where when the school stopped working, no one was interested in what was happening in the school yard, not even the appearance of the school. That's why we think that someone who has been working there for more than a decade could contribute to make it better Specifically, we have nothing against the man appointed by the ministry, but we believe that it would be much better if someone from the local community who is involved in the school's work was appointed as the director, Kažanegra Gregović stressed.
