The mayor of Podgorica, Ivan Vuković, said that the current administration is working to alleviate the negative consequences of the accelerated development of the city in the previous period, which "resulted in the loss of a certain green fund".
"We again want to create the impression among people that Podgorica is the greenest city in the region, and it is according to some parameters, but I understand why that perception has changed," Vuković pointed out, announcing the start of the second cycle of planting through the "My Tree" application.
The capital city started a planting project with the company "Amplitudo", which, as pointed out by Vuković, turned out to be very successful.
"Through this project, Podgorica will have a new green fund at the end of the year, which in terms of number of trees will be equivalent to the size of King's Park in the city center," said Vuković.
He said that over 700 adult trees and more than a thousand seedlings were planted in the capital last year, which are used for reforestation.
Vuković announced a major cleaning operation for the Gorica hill for Saturday, he invited citizens to join in, and on that day members of the Protection Service will clean the area of the Zeta river.
He emphasized that this is not the only thing that the capital is doing to mitigate the negative consequences, announcing that a tender for the construction of a solar power plant will be announced this year.
The director of the company "Amplitudo" Nenad Novović pointed out that there is great interest in the application, both in the region and in Europe, America, and even New Zealand.
He announced that through the application, citizens will be able to report where there are damaged or dry trees, and it will also be possible to measure the carbon footprint.
