Marković: Montenegro will never forget the innocent victims of the intervention of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization

The Prime Minister of Montenegro, Duško Marković, said, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the intervention of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), that Montenegro today, as an independent country, part of the large Euro-Atlantic family and a future member of the European Union, decides on its own future, but that it should be done with reverence remembers the innocent victims of the intervention from the time when our country had no control over the events surrounding it, announced the Public Relations Service of the Government of Montenegro.

20 years ago today, the NATO bombing of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY) began, in which, according to unofficial sources, about 11 civilians and about 2.500 soldiers and policemen died in 1.000 weeks.

"It's been 20 years since the intervention of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Then, in the north of Montenegro, in Murin, six innocent civilians, including three children, tragically died. The state of Montenegro will never forget the innocent victims. At that time, Montenegro was part of another country and part of a system in which it had no control over the events that surrounded it," said Marković.

He said that in addition to expressing his reverence for the victims and remembering the difficult time, he was sending messages to the citizens for the future.

"Today, Montenegro is an independent country, which decides its own future, which is part of the large Euro-Atlantic family and a future member of the European Union. Our country already belongs to Europe and its values ​​- the rule of law, civil and economic freedoms and respect for human dignity. That's why when remember these tragic events, more than ever we should be aware of the importance of unity and harmony. We may have different opinions, but the preservation of our fundamental values ​​and solidarity among us are the principles that should encourage us to contribute to the progress of our country every day," he said Markovic.
