Several dozen citizens of Žabljak, representatives of the non-governmental sector from this city, planted new saplings near Black Lake today, in places where trees were recently destroyed.
"We came to the place where an environmental crime was committed, and with this act we once again express our protest against the cutting of healthy trees and the construction of bungalows in an area protected by UNESCO. I hope that we will succeed in preventing the further cutting of trees that are visibly marked. We will persist in our defense of these values", said their representative Milovan Vojinović.
Before the start of the planting, forestry associate in the Durmitor National Park (NP) Slavoljub Džaković announced that the position of the NP "Durmitor" is that planting cannot be carried out because such a procedure has not been reported.
He was answered that they have the right to such activity according to Article 16 of the Law on National Parks, which allows citizens to plant indigenous trees.
Then, in the area behind the "Crno jezero" restaurant, they dug holes with picks and axes and planted 50 young spruce seedlings between the fallen trees.
Vojinović said that no investment activities will be allowed in the area from the ramp to the lake.
"Learning that the cutting will continue did not catch us off guard. Since this morning at 5,30:1,5 a.m., volunteers have been working in this area monitoring the events. This will be the case until this intention is officially thwarted. We will be ready to quickly thwart any intention to cut down the forest or of the second action on the implementation of the project, for which a public hearing was recently held, and includes the construction of a 858-meter-wide pedestrian path alongside the existing XNUMX-meter-long promenade, water, sewage and electrical networks, lighting, optical cables, reconstruction of the double bridge near the restaurant on the Black Lake , "said Vojinovic.
