More than 17.000 citizens had an infectious disease in March, which is about 20 percent more than in February.
Last month, 636 people with infectious diseases were reported to the Institute of Public Health, as well as 15.894 patients with respiratory infections and 729 with influenza.
In March, there were about 12 percent more people suffering from infectious diseases compared to the same month last year.
The Institute said that cases of infectious diseases were reported by health institutions from 20 municipalities.
If acute respiratory infections and flu are not counted, the largest number of registered patients fell ill with chicken pox, i.e. sheep pox - 412 of them. 62 people fell ill with streptococcal tonsillopharyngitis, i.e. an infectious disease of the tonsils and throat...
29 people had scabies, 16 had acute enterocolitis - intestinal infection, and 14 patients each had infectious mononucleosis and intestinal worm infection.
"In March, in relation to the route of transmission, respiratory infectious diseases dominated with 79,4 percent, followed by intestinal diseases with 11,5 and parasitic diseases with seven percent," the Institute announced.
Sexually transmitted diseases were registered in four patients - two had genital warts, and one each had hepatitis B and chlamydia. Zoonoses (infectious diseases that are transmitted from animals to humans) were registered in three patients.
The Institute's data also show that two patients had vector-borne disease (infectious disease transmitted by vectors - mosquitoes, ticks...). Leishmaniasis, a so-called tropical disease caused by the Leishmania parasite, was registered with them.
