Believers who have been on duty day and night for almost 20 days and defended the baptistery in Prevlaka in Tivat from the announced demolition, will organize the signing of a petition on the squares of Tivat, Kotor, Herceg Novi and Budva on Saturday, April 20, demanding the restoration of the monastery of St. Archangel Michael and the preservation of the baptistery.
The building with an area of 11 square meters was built a few months ago on the monastery pontoon on the southwest coast of Prevlaka, and the Metropolitanate of Montenegro did not receive the necessary papers and consents for it from the state.
For this reason, the Construction Inspection of the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism made decisions about the removal of the baptistery, which was scheduled for April 2 at 9 a.m., but the inspectors and the executive service did not even appear at Prevlaka at that time because the intervention failed a few hours before the scheduled appointment. of the police, who gathered in the night from land and sea, to occupy the baptistery where a large number of citizens had gathered at that time.
Since then, believers of not only the Orthodox, but also other faiths have been on duty in Prevlaka guarding the baptistery, and from this weekend the signing of the petition for the preservation of that building has been ongoing.
As announced, the petition in Tivat will be signed on Magnolia Square from 9 am to 12 pm and on the Pine waterfront from 14 pm to 19 pm, in Kotor at the stone kiosk from 9 am to 19 pm, in Herceg Novi on Nikola Đurković Square from 9 am to 19 pm. hours, and at the same time in Budva in front of the "Mogren" hotel.
The organizers of the petition point out that the goal of this initiative is to obtain a building permit for the reconstruction of the monastery, which the Metropolitanate of Montenegrin Littoral has been waiting for since 2012.
"On the 800th anniversary of the founding of the Zeta bishopric, the faithful people of Boka demand the restoration of the monastery of St. Archangel Michael on Miholjska Prevlaka. The European Charter on Human Rights and Freedoms, as well as all domestic legal acts, guarantee citizens the right to freedom of religion in their historical-cult place." , it is emphasized in the text of the petition that will be signed in Boka.
