Last Wednesday, the students of the "Slobodan Škerović" Gymnasium honored the Podgorica audience with a performance of the musical "Briljantin", based on the film of the same name.
Forty-eight students, with the help of teachers and choreographers, devotedly worked on improving their voice, dance and text, but also on creating memories that will be retold for a long time.
One of the students, Jovan Aleksić, said that everyone tried to bring the story from the movie screen to life in Podgorica as well.
"All the participants watched the film together at the beginning of January and were delighted with both the actors and the overall plot of the film and the message it carries." We tried to convey the same story here in Podgorica during the five months that we have been working on the project," explains Jovan.
Their effort to convey the story as faithfully as possible and the months of practice and joint work on the project led to the birth of love, just like in the movie.
"The point of the musical is love above all, and we can say that love happened during the rehearsals and that it is something you can't live without," said high school student Amir Abdović.
Literature professor Biljana Vučurović, who participated in the preparation of the musical, states that love is an integral part of the life of high school students that cannot be lived without, which is also the message of the film.
"Love is the leitmotif and a daily factor in their lives, they cannot imagine life without love at all, regardless of whether it is achievable, unachievable, whether they only dream or actually happen, and it is precisely that dream of love that is shown here. This story of a bad guy and a good girl and how willing he is to change his behavior and his path and take the path of good for the sake of that one real girl, and how much they actually enjoy dancing and singing, that's actually one of the messages the movie gives." , points out Vučurović.
The professor adds that they adapted the story for the 21st century, gave the characters local names and introduced the selfie as one of today's attractions, but they preserved the recognizable characteristics of that time and allowed the students to express all their talents.
Literature professor Marko Spaić said that the participants were chosen at the meetings of the Club for Talented Children, but also through auditions that they organized for that purpose.
"There were three literature professors, a music professor, a choreographer, an art professor and two coordinators in the team. We are a well-coordinated team and for two years now we have been performing as part of the Club of Talented Students. "Last year we had Alice in the High School of Miracles, which we created with great care and love, and this year we prepared the musical with the same enthusiasm and energy," he emphasizes.
The professor adds that it is very important for the entire team to give this kind of gift to the city, because although there have been musicals performed by high schools, this is the first musical of the High School.
"We owe special thanks to the director of the Gymnasium, Zoja Bojanić Lalović, who is always there to help us when it comes to financial resources for the stage, and always answers all our requests, which are not small, with a smile. She motivates us to do something every year," said Spaić.
Gymnasium "Slobodan Škerović" is reputed to be one of the best gymnasiums in Montenegro, and in order to achieve the best possible success, students must study hard throughout the school year. However, when you truly love something, it is not difficult to balance school obligations with extracurricular activities.
"When the rehearsals came to an end, the students participating in the musical were released from classes for four days in order to prepare as well as possible for the performance," said Vučurović.
She also points out that none of the students participate in the musical in order to get better grades, because the professors involved in the musical generally do not teach them. Most of the participants are students of the first grade, while there are only three high school graduates.
The professor adds that working on a musical is a kind of interaction between professors and students who guide each other towards achieving their goals. "The children are really great, sometimes we motivate them and they additionally motivate us, there is a total interaction, we are also professors and coordinators and leaders, but they lead us. We absolutely listen to them and we can really say that this is a real dialogue through the story, they guide us through the story. Sometimes we forget what it means to be 16-17 years old and they remind us", says Vučurović.
48 students on stage
In the musical "Briljantin" there are 52 high school students on stage. They are Nikolina Brnović, Ena Begović, Jovan Bašović, Ksenija Radovanović, Amir Abdović, Jovan Aleksić, Aleksandar Kalezić, Aleksa Laković, Iva Petrović, Anđela Vlaović, Nikola Vasović, Vladimir Popović, Balša Mišurović, Mirza Kolarević, Jana Radunović, Nevena Penava, Anika Vilotić, Isidora Lopičić, Irina Nikolić, Ksenija Radović, Staša Šćepanović, Mia Radović, Jelena Dobričanin, Ivan Ujkić, Marija Đurović, Helena Bulatović, Sara Krpuljević, Lura Topalović, Maja Vuksanović, Matija Prenkočević, Lana Brtan, Luka Gajević, Aleksa Bojović , Đuro Jeknić, David Burdžović, Milica Laković, Anja Lučić, Maša Rolović, Milena Jovanović, Anja Đoković, Nikolina Ćoso, Nađa Petrić, Mina Grebović, Dunja Šestović, Mihailo Ivanović, Balša Pavićević, Jelena Stevanović, Suncica Sredanović, Jovana Blečić, Jovana Vukićević, Anastasija Djerković, Staša Tadić.
Professors-coordinators who helped to put the musical on stage are Marko Spaić, Biljana Vučurović, Darija Šćepanović, Milena Dulović, choreographer Marina Nina Rmuš, Maša Jovović and Gordana Trebješanin were in charge of artistic and visual support. Technical support was the work of Mladen Janković, the coordinator of the Club of Talented Students is pedagogue Gordana Arsović.
