The mosque in Petnjica from the 16th century deserves to have its place on road signs on the main road routes on the Adriatic highway, which pass through and past Petnjica, Beran, Bijelo Polje and Rožaj, said the president of the OO Bosniak Party of Petnjica and its high-ranking official Adnan Muhović.
As reported by Radio Petnjica, Muhović says that the Petnjica mosque deserves it for several reasons.
"Putting the old Petnjica mosque on the road signs would correct a long-standing injustice towards the mosque itself, which is more than just a mosque, but also towards the Bosniak people. This would show that the people of the Bihor region have their own history, which is connected to the old mosque, and that Bosniaks as a people have been inhabiting these areas since time immemorial, even before they belonged administratively to Montenegro. Also, this story would have a tourist dimension and would be very significant for religious tourism and contribute to the development of our municipality, as well as the valorization of the religious and national component of our people in Petnjica and beyond. Because if so many great monasteries and churches can be prominently displayed on road signs, why can't the Petnjica mosque, too," said Muhović.
He also adds that when passing through the mentioned road routes, one gets the impression "that in this part of Montenegro and Sandžak only Orthodox people live, which, of course, is not true, because the percentage of Bosniak-Muslim population is in the majority or relative majority".
