The company Crnagoraput will not remove the tires it unloaded in the "Durmitor" National Park for four years.
This was announced recently in Žabljak, at a forum on the significance of Durmitor National Park remaining on the UNESCO world heritage map, the director of that National Park, Tomo Pajović.
More than a hundred tires were deposited in the tunnel above the source of the river Ljutica, a left tributary of the Tara.
This was announced at the forum by Dane Novosel, a tourism worker from Žabljak, who showed the participants photos of deposited tires.
"100 to 150 tires from different manufacturers were deposited in the tunnel above the source of Ljutice. Last year we pointed out this problem, we know that NP 'Durmitor' does not have the means to remove it, but we are asking the Public Enterprise National Parks of Montenegro when it will be removed from the heart of the National Park. Durmitor', which is under the protection of UNESCO, from the heart of the Tara River, remove these tires that have been standing there for years," he said.
Pajović replied that the tires in that tunnel were "disposed of by the company Crnagoraput", several years ago, and that they had been warned to remove them from the tunnel.
He pointed out that the company NP "Durmitor" could not do that, because they do not have the necessary machinery, but also that he believes that the responsibility lies with the company Crnagoraput.
"The company that stored the tires in the tunnel is responsible for that. We repeatedly asked them to remove the tires, but they did not. We asked for the consent of the Žabljak Municipal Company to deposit them, but there is no landfill in our territory where they could be disposed of, which is why we sought the opinion of the Njeguduja Local Community in order to dispose of them there. We have a promise that the work will be completed soon," he said.
For days, Crnagoraput did not respond to "Vijesti"'s questions about whether it was true that they stored more than a hundred tires in the tunnel above the source of the Ljutica River and that, despite warnings from the "Durmitor" National Park, they had not removed that waste for years, as well as the question if exactly why they did it in the heart of the UNESCO National Park and why they didn't remove the waste.
The Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism has announced the preparation of a Study on the selection of a location for the temporary disposal and storage of tires.
The Ministry said that the construction of the site will ensure that tires are not scattered and disposed of, especially in protected areas, rivers and forests.
