Montenegrin Minister of Health Kenan Hrapović and Minister of Public Health of Cuba Jose Angel Portal Miranda signed a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of health and medical sciences between the two countries.
The Ministry of Health announced that the Memorandum was signed in Geneva, at the session of the Assembly of the World Health Organization.
From that department, they explained that the signing of the memorandum was initiated by the line ministry of Cuba.
The memorandum, as they said, is the basis for the mobility of students, health workers and the development of the system through education, exchange of experiences and good practices at all levels of health care, as well as in the area of policy development and research in the field of drugs and medical devices, and the promotion of health tourism.
It is stated that Hrapović and Portal exchanged experiences regarding the results of implemented reforms, as well as plans for the development of health systems.
"It was concluded that the ultimate goal of activities and reforms should be aimed at further reducing the death rate of children under the age of five, although Cuba (four deaths per thousand live births, and Montenegro 2,7 per thousand live births) are countries that have among the lowest rates mortality rates, which are significantly lower than the global average of 29 deaths per thousand live births in 2017," the statement said.
Hrapović and Portal also discussed the treatment program for cancer treatment carried out by Cuban medicine.
"Cuban scientists in biotechnology have made a very important contribution to the development of new methods of cancer prevention and treatment, which aim to transform from a deadly disease into a chronic disease," the Ministry reminded.
Hrapović, as they said, said that he is satisfied that the Government of Cuba recognizes the importance of innovations in health care, as well as the hope for good cooperation during all research that is at an advanced level in Cuba, with the participation of Montenegrin doctors.
