This year, Montenegro will mark June 20 - World Environment Day - with cleaning and landscaping actions, as well as planting various trees in 5 municipalities.
The celebration of World Environment Day is organized by the General Secretariat of the Government, the Union of Municipalities of Montenegro and the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism.
As announced by the General Secretariat, in 20 municipalities, representatives of local self-governments, non-governmental organizations, as well as all interested citizens, will together organize the space in which they live and stay.
Actions in each city will start at the same time, at eight hours and 30 minutes.
The municipalities of Andrijevica, Bar, Berane, Bijelo Polje, Danilovgrad, Žabljak, Kolašin, Kotor, Mojkovac, Nikšić, Petnjica, Plužine, Pljevlja, Podgorica, Rožaje, Tivat, Tuzi, Ulcinj, Cetinje and Šavnik will participate in the action.
Knjaževac Park will be arranged in Andrijevica, cleaning of the city beaches and the water area of the Bar marina is planned in Bar, and an educational workshop on the topic of "Marine waste" will be held on Žukotrlica beach, starting at nine o'clock, after which waste will be collected from those beaches.
The municipality of Berane will organize an action to clean the picnic area at the Jasikovac Memorial Park and its surroundings, as well as an action to improve one of the urban areas in the very center of the city, in the continuation of Osme Montenegrin Brigade street.
In the courtyards of secondary schools, mini actions and outdoor classes will be organized, dedicated to environmental topics.
In Bijelo Polje, it is planned to install containers in the Roma settlement Strojtanica and rehabilitate three landfills for garbage, rubble and various waste materials in that locality.
As part of the "Three Colors of Clean" manifestation, the school yard and the neighborhoods where the partner elementary schools are located, the banks of Lim below the Roma settlement of Strojtanica and the settlement itself will be cleaned.
The municipality of Danilovgrad will organize cleaning in Spuž, namely the road from Stologlav towards Burum and the railway station, the Bedema plateau, the Friendship Park, the road to the Spuška fortress and wild landfills.
Remediation of wild landfills on the territory of Spuž and afforestation of the yard of "Njegoš" Elementary School are also planned.
In Žabljak, waste will be removed from the location Vlajkova krivina - Usijek, and pruning of branches and low vegetation along the road will be organized.
In Kolašin, the sports area of the city, the Dulovine forest park, as well as the planting of perennial trees in two city squares, will be cleaned.
In Kotor, in the area of the local community of Dobrota, trees will be planted in the place of palm trees that were destroyed in the red rot epidemic.
In the area of Mojkovac, the terrain next to the main road Mojkovac - Bijelo Polje will be cleaned, while in Nikšić, a cleaning and arrangement of part of the Trebjesa Forest Park will be organized.
The municipalities of Petnjica and Rožaje will mark the Day of Environmental Protection a little earlier, on June 3, due to the religious holiday of Eid al-Fitr. In Petnjica, the largest excursion site Turijak is planned to be cleaned, while wild landfills will be cleaned in Rožaje.
In Pljevlja, work will be done on the horticultural arrangement around the school in Guka, where decorative and woody plants will be planted.
In Podgorica, the cleaning of Skalina will be organized, while in Plužine, wild landfills will be removed at the site of the suburban settlement of Seoca.
In Tivat, three holly trees, plum trees, succulents and seasonal flowers will be planted on Culture Square, as well as a plaque in the area of the Great City Park, which is protected as a natural asset.
In Tuzi, 20 different trees will be planted and the bed of the Cijevna river will be cleaned in the Kuće Rakića settlement, near the waterfall.
In the area of Cetinje, 20 linden trees will be planted in the courtyards of educational institutions, and the entrance to the former upper HEI Obod complex will also be organized.
In Ulcinj, a cleaning action will be organized for Velika plaža, while in Šavnik, the grounds will be cleaned and waste will be collected in front of the Municipality building, in front of the school, around the kindergarten, wastewater treatment plant and in the town square.
World Environment Day is celebrated all over the world with various activities and campaigns, with the aim of drawing public attention to numerous environmental problems and the need to preserve the environment.
The General Assembly of the United Nations set the date for June 5, because on that day the Stockholm Conference was held in 1972, where representatives of 113 countries adopted a joint statement on the need for international cooperation in order to protect the environment.
