The ecological action of cleaning the picnic area near the Memorial on Jasikovac in Berane, as well as the landscaping of the green area in VIII Crnogorske Brigade Street, was successfully implemented today.

The action was organized by the Municipality of Berane in cooperation with the Association of Municipalities of Montenegro.

The action was attended by employees of the local self-government and its public enterprises, workers of the Municipal Company, the Agency for Construction and Development of Beran and the Protection and Rescue Service, students of all the city's elementary schools and representatives of several non-governmental organizations that deal with environmental protection.

This action was supposed to take place on June 5, World Environment Day, but due to bad weather conditions, it was postponed until today.

Advisor to the President of the Municipality, Darko Stojanović, said that the Municipality of Berane, as in previous years, participates in the celebration of World Environment Day.

"We picked up the waste we found in the Jasikovac picnic area. The workers of the Communal Enterprise carried out the landscaping of the grassy areas at the mentioned location and in the small city park in VIII Crnogorske Brigade Street. The response to the action is excellent. It is important that our young fellow citizens from primary schools participated in the action the most, which is very important for raising their awareness of the importance of environmental protection", he pointed out.

Since the Municipal Company had remedied the illegal landfills in the area of our city in the past few days, Stojanović appealed to all citizens to dispose of municipal waste in the places provided for it and to protect green areas, the banks of the Lim River and the part next to the city ring road, because it is a pledge for the future.

"In one part of the bypass, inventory in the form of benches and tables has been placed. Also, certain types of trees have been planted that can grow quickly and in some way physically prevent cars and trucks from dumping waste there. Emphasis should be placed on raising awareness, informing, notifying, and on the work of inspection and communal services, as well as rigorously punishing unscrupulous individuals," Stojanović stressed, adding that furniture should be installed at the Jasikovac city picnic area in the coming period.

Luka Femić, an eighth-grade student from the "Vuk Karadžić" elementary school, also participated in the action.

"At school, we regularly learn about the importance of environmental protection in biology classes, and the teachers encourage us to do so every day. I was happy to participate in this action and thus contributed to a more beautiful appearance of our city. This is not the first time that I have participated in this kind of action, I have done that for the previous two years as well," Luka added.

This year, twenty Montenegrin municipalities joined the celebration of this significant date - in cooperation with the Association of Municipalities of Montenegro.
