Yesterday, several non-governmental organizations condemned the appearance of new landfills on Tara, on agricultural land next to its tributary river Drcka, and they sent an initiative for inspection supervision to the Directorate for Inspection Affairs (UIP).
Two days ago, the Network for the Affirmation of the Non-Governmental Sector (MANS) published new footage from Tara, which, according to them, shows that the Chinese company CRBC, which is engaged in the construction of the Bar-Boljara highway, instead of taking the excavated construction waste to for that intended location, illegally deposited waste on agricultural land next to Drcka.
"A large illegal construction waste dump was formed, from the camp where the Chinese workers are located, upstream on the left bank of the Drcka, along the road to Andrijevica, for which there is no agreement in the documentation that is available to the public. Channels for waste and drainage water have been made and flow directly into Drcko, which flows into Tara", it is stated, among other things, in the initiative that "Ozon", NGO "Breznica", Center for Development Durmitor and MANS sent to UIP yesterday.
They add that "there is still a noticeable trend of accumulation of excavations along the bed of the Tara River".
"It is completely clear that despite the clear messages from the reports of the European Commission and UNESCO, Chinese investors, with the blessing of the Government, continue with the brutal devastation of Tara and its basin, which includes Drcko. The area where the priority section is being worked on has been turned into a landfill for everything and everything, and environmental crime reigns there," Aleksandar Perović from "Ozon" told "Vijesta", assessing that "it is clear that supervision and inspections cannot stop the trend of destruction".
The emergence of new landfills was also condemned by the Center for the Protection and Study of Birds (CZIP) and the NGO Green Home.
"Monitoring the quality of land, water and air in the immediate vicinity of the landfill must be carried out regularly, but we cannot expect this to be the case with an illegal landfill as well." That is why it is necessary to take urgent measures, to close the landfill, in order to return the state of the environment to its original state", said Ksenija Medenica from CZIP.
The NGO Green Home assessed that it is necessary to open a serious professional and public dialogue, focused exclusively on the problem of landfills, and to create an urgent rehabilitation plan and further organization of the construction waste management plan.
