The Ulcinj Salt Flat was declared a nature park at today's session of the Ulcinj Municipality Assembly.
"Finally, the Solana in Ulcinj has been recognized as a site of national importance," stated the Center for the Protection and Study of Birds - an organization that has been working on this for 15 years.
Back in 2017, the government adopted a document which stipulated that there would be no construction in the area of the Saltworks, and that within the construction area of the Saltworks there are planned areas for industry, on which the rehabilitation and modernization of the salt production factory is planned, along with the addition of accompanying facilities and plants for the production and sale of salt items.
Among other things, the document from 2017 states that the basic measures for the protection of the salt flats are "declaration of a nature park... where no actions may be taken that could possibly endanger this area".
