The executive director of the Breznica NGO Milorad Mitrović claims that the Pljevlja TPP released chemicals, ash and slag into the Vezišnica river, and that all of it went downstream to the Ćehotina.
"It probably benefits the situation to get rid of that waste before the dry period. The higher water level of Ćehotina is also noticeable because they probably released more water from the Otilovići dam, which they manage with the intention of getting rid of the waste," said Mitrović.
The spokesman for the Democrats, Nikola Rovčanin, said that the situation in Pljevlja is proof that the government is unable to establish mechanisms for environmental protection.
"And that the decades-long privileged position of the polluters has led to the fact that they do not take care of the air, the land, or the water. The only thing they are guided by is financial interests, which is why we very often see apocalyptic images, such as this one today in Ćehotiina. It is obvious that the government cannot comply with the obligations from Chapter 27 - environmental protection and that it is not even able to implement the adopted laws. We are asking for an immediate reaction from the competent authorities, concrete measures and sanctions for those responsible," said Rovčanin.
Vaso Knežević, president of SRK Lipjen from Pljevlje, said that there was a fish crisis in Vezišnica and Ćehotina and that "the culprit is very obvious".
"Because it was determined where the "white" water comes from, from the pipes of the Pljevlja Thermal Power Plant. The accident was reported to the competent inspection, water samples were taken and the dead fish were taken. The Thermal Power Plant and the Electric Power Company of Montenegro claim that diversion was carried out against them and that they will file a criminal complaint against unknown persons. SRK Lipjen has taken all necessary measures, Minister Simović and all relevant entities from the Freshwater Fisheries Sector, as well as the management of Elektroprivreda, have been informed," said Knežević.
